Cari Scouts, se vi scriviamo una lettera è perchè a Roverway non ci saremo. L'organizzazione del campo, ed in particolare l'associazione degli scout cattolici AGESCI, ha deciso che è meglio che la nostra bottega (Gender Trouble. Viaggio tra i generi per sconfiggere l'omofobia), da tempo programmata, non abbia luogo. Se non vi scrivessimo, probabilmente non sareste neppure informati di questa incomprensibile censura.
Tanti di voi, lo sappiamo, hanno amici e amiche gay o lesbiche, e hanno imparato ad ascoltarli e a voler loro bene come si fa tra amici, intorno al fuoco la sera o lungo sentieri da percorrere con uno zaino in spalla. Altri forse pensano che questo argomento non li riguarda, ma non è così.
Le statistiche dicono che una persona su dieci è gay o lesbica, e non è possibile che nel vostro gruppo non ci sia nemmeno uno di loro. Magari avete raccolto insieme la legna ieri sera, forse è la persona con cui avete condiviso un pezzo del vostro viaggio, oppure è il vostro capo e non ci avete mai pensato prima ... forse sta aspettando il momento giusto per dirvelo, ma non è sicuro che questo non gli faccia perdere la vostra amicizia.
Quello che sta succedendo in questi giorni, l'invito al campo ritirato a pochi giorni dal suo inizio, dimostra che l'omofobia (cioè la paura e il rifiuto delle persone omosessuali), è ancora molto diffusa nel mondo e poggia le sue basi sul silenzio e l'ignoranza. Senza il vostro intervento, i gay e le lesbiche scout non potranno sentirsi bene oggi a Roverway, perchè l'organizzazione non ha scelto di “osare e condividere”, ma di ritirarsi e rinchiudersi ponendo ai margini chi è portatore testimone di un percorso e scelte differenti.
Prima che il silenzio cali, vogliamo quindi mandarvi un saluto e dirvi che si puo' essere gay e lesbiche ed essere felici, specie se al proprio fianco c'è qualcuno disposto a respingere le discriminazioni e i divieti che troppo spesso accompagnano questa esperienza. Voi state facendo un percorso educativo, e nessuno ha il diritto di imporvi di desiderare e amare dentro uno schema prefissato.
Educare è tirare fuori da ciascuno ciò che ha di meglio dentro di sè, e il desiderio e l'amore per una persona del proprio stesso sesso è un tesoro al quale non possiamo e non vogliamo rinunciare.
Non rinunciate nemmeno voi e fate sentire la vostra voce per fermare le discriminazioni nei confronti di gay e lesbiche, se davvero il rispetto per gli altri non è più un concetto astratto e sa tradursi in scelte concrete e coraggiose.
Prima di salutarvi, vi proponiamo un piccolo gesto di disobbedienza. In fondo a questo messaggio trovate un logo che dice solo questo: Roverway 2006, stop all'omofobia. Stampatelo, incollatelo, portatelo sulle vostre magliette, attaccatelo allo zaino o sui vostri foulard, issatelo davanti alle vostre tende: dite forte e chiaro a chi non vuol ascoltare che per quanto vi riguarda i gay e le lesbiche sono a casa anche in un gruppo scout.
